Licensing & Certification
California requires a C-60 Welding Contractor license from the CSLB for most commercial welding work. Structural fabricators must register with AISC or DSA (Division of the State Architect) for school and hospital projects. Pressure vessel welders need a California-issued boiler certification.
AWS Code Adoption
CalTrans and DSA both enforce AWS D1.1 on structural steel. Seismic zone requirements (AISC 341 Seismic Provisions) add pre-qualified weld joint restrictions that Texas and Florida don't require. Always spec ER70S-6 or E7018-H4R for seismic connections.
